2024  -  OngoingGrowing up in the 2010s in South Jakarta, my sense of self was shaped by the constant flow of social media alongside an education at a private international Christian school. YouTube and Instagram exposed me to cultures far beyond my immediate surroundings, creating a persistent friction between inherited Chinese-Indonesian traditions, consumed Western ideals, and local social expectations.

Outdonesia reflects this search for belonging in a world that feels simultaneously connected and distant. Combining staged collaborations with friends, self-portraits, visual diary documentation, recontextualized domestic objects, and handwritten journal entries, the project explores how media consumption and cultural influence become entangled with the formation of identity.

From masked faces and constructed bodies to Indonesian cultural objects, digital imagery, and everyday Jakarta environments, the work dwells in a state of in-betweenness—examining how personal history, social media, and cultural expectations intersect in contemporary Indonesia.
